What is it with the Senayan Stadium? The stadium where the yearly tournament is held always takes its "tolls", the defeat of the seeded players in many categories.
This year many seeded players were falling until the second round, last Thursday (2/6).
Indonesia lost three of its seeds in the second round, Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir, men's doubles pair Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan, and Indonesian women's doubles seed Greysia Polio/Nitya Krishinda. The three pair had been expected to win titles.
Not only happened to Indonesian but also happened to China where Lin Dan, Li Xuerui, Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan, and Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei, had to call it a quit in the second round of US$900 thousand tournament at Senayan.
However, positive outcomes were shown by eager Indonesian young guns. Five Indonesian vices manages to be in quarter final.
They are Jonatan Christie and Ihsan Maulana Mustofa who have been showing good performance after the Thomas Cup's good results. In mixed doubles, the tandems of Tontowi/Ahmad and Praven/Debby, Alfian Eko/Annisa Saufika have qualified to level premier's, and also in women's doubles, Greysia/Nitya's role is replaced by their juniors, Anggia Shitta/Mahadewi Istirani Ni Ketut and Tiara Rosalia/Rizki Amelia who has just secured a ticket to their first premier level quarter final.
